Rajaji National Park: Paradise of Elephants

Rajaji National Park is a famous national park and tiger reserve in the northern state of Uttarakhand. It is one of the most famous national parks in the state after Jim Corbett National Park. The national park is located near the foothills of the Shivalik range and is home to a variety of flora and fauna. The pristineness and the beauty of the park have rendered it a must-visit place for nature lovers and wildlife lovers. 


What is Rajaji National Park famous for?


  • Safari: The wildlife Safari is one of the popular attractions inhere. There are both jeep safaris and elephant safaris available for visitors to choose from. The jeep safaris are conducted twice a day, from 6-9 in the morning and 3-6 in the evening. The elephant safaris are relatively shorter, lasting from 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Tiger Park

  • Tiger Park: The tiger reserve is home to a wide species portfolio and has one of the highest concentrations of animals. The major attractions in the tiger reserve include Asian elephants, tigers, Leopard, Sloth bears, hyenas, jackals, Himalayan Black bears, etc. The tiger reserve also contains various flora species and has many sites with amazing views of nature.

  • Rafting: There are rafting and canoeing facilities available in here. The 12 km path through the river Ganges is perfect for these adventure sports and is one of the area’s major tourist attractions. Rafting is sure to be a fun activity that can be done with friends or family.

How can I go to Rajaji National Park?


The nearest airport to the Park is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is about 33km from the Park. Jolly Grant Airport is a 50-minute flight from Delhi International Airport and is connected to major cities of India.

The nearest railway station to the here is in Haridwar and Dehradun. Both the railway stations have frequent services being part of the northern railways and is connected to many major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, etc.


Rajaji Park is open to visitors only from November 15 to June 15 every year. The summer season from April-June is the preferred time to visit this as it is the time where you can spot the most animals. Wintertime in the Park may be suited for nature lovers as the cold and the calming, natural ambience of the national park blend in to give a very nice experience for the visitors.
