Kanyakumari: The land of beautiful sunrises and sunsets

Kanyakumari is located at the southern tip of the Indian peninsula and is the southernmost point of the Indian mainland. It is in the state of Tamil Nadu, near Nagarcoil. It is also known as Cape Comorin. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations in India, by both domestic and foreign tourists. There are numerous historic monuments in the area.

Kanyakumari is a unique spot geographically and strategically. It has a coastline of over 71 kilometres and is the meeting point of three seas; namely the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. The ‘Triveni Sangamam’, as it is called, is a holy place for many devout believers. The place has some amazing beaches that are world-famous. This includes Kanyakumari Beach, Shanguthurai Beach, Sothavilai Beach and many more. The beaches are famous for their sunrise, sunset, and moonrise and will be a one-of-a-kind experience for all visitors.

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial, near the shore, is a must-visit place in Kanyakumari. It is famous for being where Swamy Vivekananda attained enlightenment. It has a meditation hall and a statue of Swamy Vivekananda too. The place has one of the most footfalls in Kanyakumari and is a must-visit place. Close to the Memorial is the Thiruvalluvar statue, which is a classic example of Indian arts at its finest. The statue of the literary legend Thiruvalluvar, which is a 133 feet statue, mounted on a 38 feet pedestal, is of great historical and architectural significance. The view tower is one of the best places to watch the statue, the beach, and the sunset together in all of its magnificence.

The Tsunami monument, a 16 feet tall structure, which was built to remember those who lost their lives in the Tsunami and of 2004, is also an architectural masterpiece. People come often to the area to pay tribute and remember the loss of loved ones in the natural calamity. The architecture is elegant and is one of the most beautiful places in Kanyakumari. The Padmanabhapuram Palace is another architectural masterpiece. A remnant of the Kingdom of Travancore, the palace is a masterpiece made in teak, with intricate designs.

Kanyakumari is one of the tourist hotspots in India. Kanyakumari has been in the spotlight for many years now because of the beauty. The views, especially the sunrise, and the sunset, looking out into the Indian Ocean is so calming and truly an enlightening experience. The rhythmic splash of the waves on the rocky beach, while standing at the Vivekananda Memorial Rock, near the statue of the great poet, while looking out into the horizon as the sun paints the sky with an orange hue is nothing short of bliss.
